What you should really be doing on Father’s Day

A few days before we celebrated mother’s day and I kinda noticed something then. And today being father’d day, it was confirmed. As much as social media (moreso, the internet) has made life easy, we’ve become a bit misguided. Or at least our intentions have…unintentionally perhaps.

Today, I took a break from posting on social media about my dad. It’s not that I didn’t want to. I just chose not to.

Why?

Because he isn’t on any social media and I know he won’t see it. And yes, it’s that strangely simple.

All throughout these years, I’ve wished my dad on Facebook and Twitter. Unfortunately, I haven’t taken an equal amount of time to wish him for real. Think, offline. Think, a bear hug. Think, a wet kiss. And no, not a poke. No, not an Instagrammed photo. Or a tweet. Or even a #hashtag just made for him.

It’s almost become a fad these days to wish our loved ones on social media. So, what I’m gonna say next is not what you’d consider “cool”. Have you wished dad offline today…like for real ? Have you taken time to read out those words you’ve written on that post for him, before you hit publish? Or are you more concerned of the likes, comments and retweets you’d probably get for that post?

It’s takes guts to do the uncool thing. Go offline. Go wish dad. For real.
